When it comes to addressing the growing climate crisis, celebrity chef Spike Mendelsohn and the team at PLNT Burger set out to create the best burgers on the planet and for the planet with their menu of chef-crafted, 100% plant-based food offerings.

Since opening its first location as a restaurant kiosk inside the Whole Foods Market in downtown Silver Spring, MD in September 2019, PLNT Burger has quickly expanded to 7 locations across the DMV and PA, featuring plant-based offerings with considerably smaller carbon foot-prints.

“I like to say every day is Earth Day at PLNT Burger,” says Celebrity Chef Spike Mendelsohn who was inspired to create a plant-based burger for his vegan wife, Cody Mendeloshn. “I was blown away by the incredible taste and texture of the Beyond Meat Patties and knew people like my wife, or even carnivores or flexitarians who want to reduce their carbon footprint, needed more options. Considering Americans eat more than 50 billion burgers a year, there was clearly a huge opportunity for us to create a restaurant that would change the way people looked at veggie burgers.”

“Our PLNT Burger Patty requires 99% less water, 93% less land, and generates 90% fewer emissions compared to an animal-based burger,” adds Ben Kaplan, CEO of PLNT Burger. “We have also used the part of a mushroom that is typically composted to create our Chik N’ Funguy Sandwiches because we believe in food innovation that works for the planet, not against it.”

Grounded in PLNT Burger’s mission to ‘eat the change you wish to see in the world,’ PLNT Burger will be partnering with Support and Feed and Housing Up to help organize trash clean-up initiatives throughout the month of April.  In addition, in partnership with local bakery, Whisked!, PLNT Burger will be planting a tree for every cookie sold throughout the month.

The team will also be launching the “Save The Planet Series,” through its social media, releasing a compilation of interviews with climate and food justice activists and changemakers across the US.

“We are thrilled to achieve change together with our climate impact partners this Earth Month,” says PLNT Burger’s Director of Strategic Marketing Jonah Goldman. “Partnering with our purveyors and community to amplify our impact on local and global ecosystems is what it’s all about.”

In honor of Earth Month, PLNT Burger will be offering $3.95 Chik ‘N Funguy sandwiches all month long, as well as $1 Crispy Herb and Sweet Potato Fries on Tuesdays in partnership with McCain Foods as part of McCain’s Pledge for Sustainability. On Earth Day, PLNT will launch it’s new limited time only menu item, Quinoa Cashew Crunch Salad.
