Checkers Drive-In Restaurants announced the signing of a multiunit store development agreement with Kerrim Jivani for five new restaurants in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The first restaurant is planned to open in the spring of 2011 in Milford. Checkers’ development in South Fairfield County is part of a strategic growth strategy to expand the brand’s presence in existing markets, as well as in new regions across the country.

“We’re very excited to welcome Kerrim to the Checkers family,” says Checkers’ chief development officer, Lynette McKee. “We are confident that residents in Fairfield County will crave our incredibly flavored burgers and uniquely seasoned fries and look forward to serving the local community.”

Jivani has more than 16 years of foodservice industry experience. He was previously a multiunit Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins franchisee and owned eight locations throughout the New York City area. In 2009, Jivani divested his Dunkin’ Brands network and is now focusing his expertise on growth with Checkers.

“I have a strong passion for the Checkers brand and look forward to expanding its presence in Fairfield County,” Jivani says. “The Checkers concept is well positioned for growth, consistently known for serving high-quality, signature food, and I look forward to the opening of these five restaurants.”

Along with the recent Hartford five-unit development agreement, this five-unit deal sells out South Fairfield County for development; the rest of Connecticut, including New Haven, is still open for expansion. Opportunities are also available to develop restaurants in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta, among other cities.
