McDonald’s Restaurants of the
Greater Philadelphia Region, Inc. will promote balanced, active
lifestyles this fall with a series of Go Active! Academic Award check
presentations and a Passport to Play tour stop throughout the greater
Philadelphia region.

“Our
schools are eager to promote healthy and active behaviors among students
and often need additional support to incorporate an effective program
throughout the school day. The Go Active! Academic Awards and Passport to
Play program seek to do exactly that,” says Mike Anton, President of the
McDonald’s Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region, Inc.
In its third year, the Go Active! Academic Awards program has benefited
more than 8,000 students and has granted $45,000 to local schools in an effort
to encourage balanced active lifestyles. Out of the 15 local winners, four schools will participate in the special check presentation.
All programs were selected on the basis of creativity, educational content,
program effectiveness, cost effectiveness, and clarity.

The following programs are being recognized: Ironton Elementary School’s “Geomotion: Fitness and Dance” program; Baltz Elementary School’s “Trek” program; Overbrook Educational
Center’s “Visibly Fit” program; and Hedgepeth Williams School’s “Roots” program.
