Captain D’s LLC, the 35-year-old pioneer in the seafood restaurant fast- casual category, opened its first international operation in Trinidad in Latin America in late January.

The restaurant marks the first of a three-restaurant commitment planned for Trinidad by Pizza Boys Group of Companies, (PBGC) based in San Juan, Trinidad, a 20-year food service operator in Trinidad and Tobago, located near Venezuela. PBGC has options for a total of 20 Captain D’s restaurants in the area.

Ron Powell, chairman and chief executive officer of Captain D’s, who previously was instrumental in the growth of A&W Restaurants and Long John Silver’s Restaurants, and Mario Sabga Aboud, PBGC chairman, and Norman Sabga Aboud, managing director, announced the opening.

Trinidad represents the first international expansion for Captain D’s, which is now, located in 25 United States plus U.S. military bases around the world. Earlier, Captain D’s announced it had reached its growth target of 20 restaurants for fiscal 2005 and plans to add another 40 restaurants in fiscal 2006.

The first Captain D’s/Trinidad site is located in the town of Point-a-Pierre. The second and third units are expected to open in May and June 2006 in Grand Bazaar Mall and Glencoe Mall respectively.

“We believe the Captain D’s menu of hand battered fried fish, seafood, chicken and home style side dishes, will be a hit with the 1.3-million Trinidad and Tobago residents,” Powell said. “PBGC has a winning track record for food service in that area, and we are pleased they are our franchisee in that country. We believe the strong first week showing reinforces our optimism for this market. ”

Headquartered in Nashville, Captain D’s, LLC opened its first restaurant in Donelson, Tenn. as Mr. D’s and the company later changed its name to Captain D’s Inc. and then Captain D’s LLC. Additional information is available at www.captainds.com.
