Today, Wendy’s begins its search to find the next class of Heisman recipients who demonstrate exceptional talents both in and out of the classroom. The Wendy’s High School Heisman (WHSH) recognizes high school students throughout the country who excel in academics, athletics and community involvement. Through Oct. 3, 2005, administrators from every U.S. high school have the opportunity to honor the country’s best citizen-scholar-athletes by nominating two high school seniors (one male and one female).

Now in its twelfth year, WHSH celebrates students who serve as role models in their communities, and encourages future leadership by recognizing well- balanced lifestyles at an early age. Since the program’s start in 1994, more than 124,000 students have been nominated. Archie Griffin, two-time collegiate Heisman Trophy winner and WHSH spokesperson, said the program provides the perfect stage for the public to celebrate and award the country’s top talent.

“This program is important because it acknowledges multi-talented individuals who make positive contributions to their communities and strive for excellence at every level,” Griffin says. It also allows educators the opportunity to extend the prestige of the Heisman name to their best students.”

The WHSH program resulted from a partnership between Wendy’s and the Heisman Memorial Trust – host of the College Heisman Memorial Trophy since 1935. Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the most prestigious award in college football, the WHSH award also is known for being the most prestigious award at the high school level.
