Subway Restaurants, which was started in 1965 by Fred DeLuca and Dr.Peter Buck as a single sandwich shop called Pete’s Subs in Bridgeport, Connecticut, opened its 20,000th location recently.

The landmark opening was actually a simultaneous opening of 20 restaurants around the world, from Tianjin, China, to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

“This is a tremendous milestone for us and a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone in the Subway family, from the franchisees to the headquarters support staff,” said DeLuca in a statement.

The landmark Subway restaurants are in: Robina, Queensland, Australia; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Tianjin, China; Hastings, England; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Flagstaff, Arizona; Phoenix, Arizona; Woodbine, Georgia; St. Anthony, Minnesota; Bowling Green, Missouri; Hazelwood, Missouri; Lockport, New York; Asheville, North Carolina; Strongsville, Ohio; Butler, Pennsylvania; Mt.Bethel, Pennsylvania; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Quitman, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; and Orem, Utah.
