Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc., today reported estimated U.S. blended same-store sales at company restaurants increased 1 percent during the four-week period ended November 3, 2001 (Period 11). Tricon’s international business reported year-to-date system-sales growth of 10 percent prior to foreign currency conversion or +2 percent versus last year’s level after conversion to U.S. dollars.

For the four-week period, U.S. same-store sales increased 9 percent at Taco Bell and 6 percent at KFC, while at Pizza Hut they declined 10 percent. Pizza Hut overlapped a very successful Insider Pizza promotion, which drove 9-percent same-store sales growth last year. The company expects Pizza Hut to end the year with positive sales momentum and its fourth straight year of positive same-store sales growth.

Sales data for this latest period represents the second four-week period in Tricon’s fiscal fourth quarter, which includes four periods. Same-store sales results for Period 12 (primarily November) will be released Thursday, December 6, 2001, prior to the market’s opening.

Tricon is the largest global restaurant company in terms of system units, with more than 30,000 restaurants around the world in more than 100 countries and territories. Tricon’s owns three brands: KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. Total system sales worldwide were over $22 billion in the
year 2000.

(Note: Same-store sales include only company restaurants that have been open one year or more. International system sales include sales from company, franchise, license, and joint-venture restaurants.)
