Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE:YUM) today reported that for the four-week period ended August 11, 2001 (Period 8), estimated
U.S. blended same-store sales at company restaurants were equal to last year’s level. Tricon’s
International business reported year-to-date system sales growth of 9%, prior to foreign currency
conversion, or equal to last year’s level after conversion to U.S. dollars.

For the four-week period, same-store sales increased 3% at Pizza Hut, and declined 2% at KFC
and 2% at Taco Bell. Sales data for this latest period represents the second of three four-week
periods in Tricon’s third fiscal quarter.

Same-store sales results for Period 9 (mid-August to mid-September) will be released Thursday,
September 13, 2001, prior to the market’s opening. Period 9 represents the third four-week period
of the third quarter.
