CKE Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: CKR) announced today that Andrew F. Puzder has
been appointed to its board of directors. Puzder is filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Tom Thompson.

Puzder has been president and chief executive officer of CKE Restaurants, Inc. since September 2000.

Thompson, former president and chief executive officer of CKE, joined the board in March 2000. He currently is a Carl’s Jr. franchisee
with 42 restaurants in Northern California.

“I have enjoyed my tenure on CKE’s board of directors and see tremendous opportunities ahead for the Company,” said Thompson.
“However, I would like to focus all my attention and energy on my growing franchise and this is a good time to make that transition.”

“We would like to thank Tom for his significant contributions to CKE and the Carl’s Jr. brand in particular,” said Puzder. “We look
forward to Tom’s continued involvement with Carl’s Jr. as one of our larger franchisees and wish him continued success with his
business.”
