Golden Chick, the Dallas-based chicken chain, teamed with former professional sports players, college coaches, and politicians to raise more than $300,000 in the annual “BSA, Jay Novacek, Golden Chick Celebrity Shoot,” held last fall. Over $600,000 from the clay target shooting contests has been raised in the past three years for the Boy Scouts of America.

More than 30 sports and entertainment celebrities participated in November’s event, which was the largest single-day fundraiser for the Circle Ten Council, helping over 29,000 inner-city Dallas area youth. Funds raised from the event are used to help Scouts with camp costs, uniforms, books, badges, and supplies as well as costs related to operating programs.

In addition to the shooting competition, the event featured a silent auction and a sponsor party, fly-fishing demonstrations and an exhibition from the U.S. Army shooting team.

“This event has grown beyond our wildest dreams,” said Golden Chick Chairman Mark Parmerlee. “When we started with the idea, we hoped it would become an annual event, but we had no idea how truly successful it would be.”

Golden Chick and its franchisees currently operate 72 Golden Fried Chicken and Golden Chick restaurants throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Mexico. The chain was founded in 1967 and was the first chain in the country to market marinated, fried chicken tenderloins as “tenders.”
