As part of Caribou’s Happy Everyday sustainability program, guests can receive 50 cents off any drink, any size, any day, when using reusable drinkware.
For an extra special perk, the nation’s second-largest coffeehouse chain is offering a free cup of coffee to guests who bring in reusable drinkware on Earth Day, April 22. These efforts toward more sustainable business practices provide guests with a wallet- and earth-friendly deal. For example, a small cup of Caribou’s premium Coffee of the Day is only $1.28.
“Caribou Coffee wants to reward those who are doing small things that add up to a big difference,” says Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing and product management for Caribou Coffee. “We know our customers share our belief that what’s good for us is good for the earth. Making everyday happy through sustainable savings is our way of showing them that we’re all in this together—and that we appreciate them helping us make a difference.”
With more than 500 coffeehouses across the country, Caribou Coffee has made a discerned effort in the last year to achieve more sustainable business practices, including a commitment to Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee sourcing. Rainforest Alliance Certified farms meet the standards of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN), a coalition of independent, nonprofit conservation groups. The certification is built on three pillars of sustainability—environmental, social, and economic—and works by setting standards to guide growers and farm operations of all sizes to more sustainable agriculture practices.
Last April, the company announced that by the end of 2011, 100 percent of their coffees will be Rainforest Alliance Certified, an aggressive sustainability effort the company is on track to achieve. Currently, more than 85 percent of Caribou Coffee’s full line of coffees is Rainforest Alliance Certified.
