Baskin-Robbins, the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, announced the opening of its 4,000th international location, in Novena Square, Singapore.  The opening of its 4000th international shop underscores Baskin-Robbins' position as a global leader in the ice cream industry.

The Novena Square location is also the brand's first shop in Singapore and the 48th country in which Baskin-Robbins now has a presence.

To commemorate the opening of the 4,000th international shop, Srinivas Kumar, president & COO, Baskin-Robbins International; Paul Reynish, chief marketing officer, Baskin-Robbins International; and John Varghese, managing director of Baskin-Robbins Middle East, Europe, and South East Asia, traveled to Singapore to take part in a special grand opening celebration with the country's master franchisee, Scoop & Scoop LLC.

Scoop & Scoop LLC, led by president and owner Mr. S.Y. Cheah, is also the master licensee of 54 Baskin-Robbins locations in Malaysia and brings more than 20 years of operating experience to Singapore. In 2008, Scoop & Scoop was recognized by Baskin-Robbins as its "International Partner of the Year" for the company's development of Baskin-Robbins in the Malaysian market. Scoop & Scoop plans to open an additional 10 locations on the island over the next several years.

"Baskin-Robbins is one of the world's pre-eminent brands," Cheah says. "We are proud to represent the brand in Singapore and look forward to introducing Baskin-Robbins' world class ice cream, cakes, and treats, along with our customary quality service and great value, to the people of Singapore."

The Novena Square location represents Baskin-Robbins' new international store design and features:

  • Relaxing lounge-style seating
  • Iconic "pink spoon" door handles and textured walls reminiscent of  Baskin-Robbins waffle cones
  • Expanded topping station
  • Interactive LCD menu displays
  • Improved dessert displays for modeling ice cream cakes and sundaes

In addition to the shop's new look and feel, Baskin-Robbins will also adapt its menu to the Singaporean palate. The brand will offer traditional American favorites like Mint Chocolate Chip and Jamoca Almond Fudge, while also offering traditional Southeast Asian flavors, including Green Tea and Mango Tango, which is made with King Alfonso mangos from India.

According to Srinivas Kumar, president and COO, Baskin-Robbins International, the opening of the Singapore market and Baskin-Robbins' 4,000th international location both underscore the deep connection people around the world have with the Baskin-Robbins brand.

"We are thrilled to simultaneously celebrate the opening of our first store in Singapore and our 4,000th international location," Kumar says. "We are also honored by the passion our guests, franchise partners like Mr. Cheah, and crewmembers have for the Baskin-Robbins brand and look forward to working with Scoop & Scoop to fulfill the demand for Baskin-Robbins top quality ice cream, cakes, and treats, served in a fun and welcoming environment."
