Smashburger is becoming almost as well known for its community involvement as it is for its fresh menu options. This time, it's Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) receiving the support. In honor of October, the official month of BCA, the restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina, located in the Stonecrest Shopping Center on Rea Road, is holding a month-long event to raise funds for the cause.

Starting Wednesday, October 5, $1 from every sale of a regular, Classic Smashburger will be given to the Charlotte chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The fundraising will continue through Saturday, November 5.

"There are so many wonderful organizations that need support, so we really did our research, and felt that Komen reaches women in such a variety of ways," says Craig Cunningham, vice president of operations for the franchise. "Not only do funds go directly to [Carolinas Medical Center] and Presbyterian Hospital for research and medical grants, but financial aid, support groups, and other programs and events are also offered through the foundation."

The restaurant, which opened in the Stonecrest Shopping Center in June, is constantly working with organizations to find new ways to offer help. Always in the mix are Charlotte-area schools, which team with Smashburger for "Spirit Nights" or "Family Nights," in which a percentage of dinner sales is given to the partnering school. The restaurant is always looking for new schools to support, and invite any area school to reach out in hopes of partnering for a fundraiser.

Smashburger, though new to Charlotte, is rapidly taking over the better burger industry across the nation. The chain was founded in Denver by Tom Ryan, the man behind Stuffed Crust Pizza and the McGriddle. To accommodate a variety of preferences, the restaurant offers items such as 100 percent Angus burgers, Haagen-Dazs milkshakes, wine and beer, salads, and Smashfries tossed in rosemary and garlic. The restaurant even offers vegetarian and gluten-free options.

No matter the preference, individuals can show their support by dining at Smashburger between October 5 and November 5. Along with the primary promotion, other donation options will be available in-store for those who do not choose to order a Classic Smashburger.
