To address concerns about nutrition and healthy eating, the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles announces NutrItaly (Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles – December 14, 2011) an event on healthy nutrition strategies.

This event is organized in cooperation with the Italy America Chamber of Commerce West, Bridges to Italy and the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation, to explore the impact of unhealthy diets for individuals and society.

Americans spend upwards of $40 billion a year on dieting advice and self-help books, but a plethora of information makes it difficult to really know what is healthy eating in an area constantly revolutionized by new discoveries and mixed messages.

With such a pervasive issue flooding our society, from counting calories at the dinner table to burning them on the treadmill  people constantly worry about whether they are doing the right thing.

The NutrItaly event will feature a panel discussion moderated by the Los Angeles Times Assistant Food Editor, Rene Lynch, will touch on the public health and medical implications of unhealthy eating and, in particular, the impact of the current epidemic of obesity which is a major contributor of other health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and fractures.

Expert panelists will also engage participants in a meaningful conversation on food & wine literacy to help promote a network of good food advocates.

Finally, popular blogger and nutrition guru, Andrew Wilder (eatingrules.com), will discuss the fundamental role of modern communication in spreading the healthy eating message.

This evening will conclude with the presentation by the Consul General, Giuseppe Perrone, of Expo Milan 2015 where tradition, creativity and innovation in the business of food will converge.

The introduction of "Marchio Q – Seal of Authenticity" by West Hooker-Poletti, Owner of Locanda del Lago in Santa Monica and fun cooking demonstrations by Celebrity Chef Pippa Calland and Piccolo Chef will follow.

The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West(IACCW) is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and stimulate economic and trade relations between Italy and the Western United States.

Bridges to Italy is a non-profit organization linking Italy and the US in the fields of technology.
