In honor of the recent gold dedals won by both Katie Ledecky of Bethesda, Maryland, and Matt McLean of Sterling, Virginia, BGR The Burger Joint owner Mark Bucher has decided to rename his Gold Standard at his restaurant in each of their hometowns.
Starting Monday, August 13, and running through the end of this month, BGR The Burger Joint in Bethesda (4827 Fairmont Ave.) will serve up the “Katie Gold Standard,” while BGR The Burger Joint in Sterling (46230 Cranston St.) will offer the “Matt Gold Standard.”
Every time a customer buys “Katie” or “Matt” Gold Standard fries, all proceeds from those purchases will be donated to the USA Swimming Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming, which raises funds to support programs that save lives and build champions in the pool and in life.
“My family has watched all of the Olympic swimming together, and in fact our youngest, 9-year-old Hannah, is a swimmer herself. She thought it would be pretty cool to use BGR's Gold Standard to honor a couple of our local Olympians—and I could certainly find no reason to argue with her,” Bucher says. “What better way to do this with the proceeds going to help other youngsters learn to swim.”
BGR’s Gold Standard fries, made from thick-cut Yukon gold potatoes, are one of the restaurant’s most popular menu items.
