Ponderosa International Development announced an agreement granting franchise rights in Egypt to Kareem Awny Abdel Dayem. The agreement calls for a minimum of five Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants to be developed in Egypt.

“We are very excited to enter into this relationship with Kareem, who shares our vision of continuing the growth of Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants throughout the Middle East and indeed the rest of the world,” says Thomas A. Sacco, president and CEO of Homestyle Dining, parent company of Ponderosa International Development.

“Kareem is a consummate business professional who shares our passion for the hospitality industry and is totally dedicated to quality and customer satisfaction,” Sacco adds.

Abdel Dayem’s family owns the Alpha Tex Group, a textile company established by his grandfather in the 1930s. In addition, he is the cofounder of Kryptonite Toys, a specialty store that sells licensed and proprietary collectibles, including comic books and hobby items.

“I have fond memories of Ponderosa from my childhood family visits to Orlando, Florida, and I am delighted to be bringing this iconic brand to Egypt,” Abdel Dayem says.

“More recently, during my visits to Ponderosa Steakhouses in Bahrain, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, I have been impressed by the quality of the dining experience and how families can enjoy a great steak and a healthy meal at a family price,” he adds. “Egypt needs a restaurant like that to call their own.”

There are more than 200 Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouses operating in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Taiwan.
