Tracy Ging and Helen Griffith of S&D Coffee & Tea have been selected to join two prestigious coffee organizations’ board of directors. Ging, who is the director of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, was asked to be on the Board for the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). Griffith, marketing manager, has joined the Board for the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA).

As the coffee industry addresses growing challenges related to supply chain sustainability and category growth, S&D has committed to being an active and collaborative partner. These appointments reflect S&D’s commitment. And, the selections are prescient. Both Ging and Griffith have been active in foodservice and coffee industry organizations and their appointments testify to their knowledge and leadership.

Ging’s appointment to the SCAA Board comes at a time when issues of sustainability are taking on increased importance. “SCAA is focused on sustainable development and as such, this is a particularly important time for S&D to enhance its commitment to the organization,” Ging adds. “We share a sense of urgency around issues such as economic viability for smallholder farmers, climate change risks, and the need for more strategic and coordinated approaches. Serving SCAA in this capacity is a way to collaborate and work with the industry to progress solutions.”

For Griffith, working with the IWCA is also an avenue for supporting sustainable development in the coffee industry. “Development experts worldwide recognize the link between an empowered woman and a more resilient community,” Griffith says. “I am excited to help foster IWCA’s mission to empower women, particularly in areas where coffee is grown and the effects of supporting women can be felt much more broadly.”

These two appointments add to the board position at the National Coffee Association held by Ron, Hinson, chairman and CEO of S&D Coffee & Tea, enabling S&D to positively impact the entire industry with service and leadership.
