100 Montaditos, the franchise restaurant chain from Spain, announced a deal to expand its presence in New York. The restaurant, which features 100 versions of the popular Spanish sandwich called the Montadito, plans to expand its footprint in the New York area and cement its U.S. presence as the first franchise restaurant from Spain. The agreement was conducted between 100 Montaditos and Mini Hospitality, an affiliate company from Crown Acquistions. The new plan for expansion include 28 restaurants in the next three years in all boroughs of New York City. These new locations will be in addition to the first New York City location on Bleecker Street and the soon-to-open Ludlow Street location. The initial goal is to have five locations open by the end of 2014.

“With our initial success in Manhattan, the next logical move was to allow expansion to all other areas of the New York City metropolitan region,” says Francisco Javier Cernuda, CEO of 100 Montaditos. “We look forward to 100 Montaditos being as widely recognized in the U.S. as it is overseas.”

The concept for the new locations is inspired by early 19th century taverns from Spain, which were known for offering a unique combination of comfort and quick, personalized service. The restaurant’s set-up will be designed to stimulate communal interaction and to offer guests a lively atmosphere that invites them to stay and enjoy culture and food from Spain’s Mediterranean diet. With presence currently in Virginia and Maryland, the brand will open additional stores in those markets as well as expand to new territories including Washington, D.C. and Texas.
