Candice (Candee) Gumm, the esteemed cake decorator at the Dairy Queen restaurant located at 1813 Richmond, Appleton, Wisconsin, placed first in the Dairy Queen system’s “Iron Tip” Cake Decorating International Competition. Gumm competed as a DQ master cake decorator against four other finalists from around the world.

The final competition featured the competitors decorating three different cakes: one judged on speed to copy a design, the second a birthday cake, and the third based on a tropical theme. Gumm, a self-taught cake decorator of 10 years, was recognized for her design clarity and use of bright colors. A veteran employee of the Appleton Dairy Queen restaurant, she has created more than 80,000 cakes within the last decade and can decorate a cake in under 10 minutes.

“I love the creative freedom I have while decorating and it’s a great feeling seeing my ideas come to life,” Gumm says. “I am honored to have represented the Appleton Dairy Queen restaurant and to have been named champion of the Iron Tip Cake Decorating Competition.”

Other finalists included Rebecca Jindra of Andover, Minnesota; Sandra Combs of Franklin, Kentucky; Cam Tu Le of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; and Florence Natalina from Jakarta, Indonesia.

Dairy Queen Cakes are made with an irresistible fudge and crunch center surrounded by DQ signature creamy vanilla and chocolate soft serve and can be custom decorated. Dairy Queen signature Blizzard Treats also can be made into a cake.
