The year was 1978. Disco was still king. Montreal defeated Boston for the Stanley Cup. And, the first test tube baby was born. Yet, it was the birth of a food icon that really transformed the lives of consumers worldwide.
In 1978, a team of Arby’s franchisees and operations specialists came together on an experimental R&D project. Their mission: take the already perfect Arby’s Roast Beef Sandwich and create a sister sandwich just as perfect and just as delicious. The result–classic, thinly sliced Roast Beef, topped with gooey, warm melted cheddar cheese, flavoured with zesty, red ranch sauce served up on an onion roll. The Beef ‘n Cheddar was born.
To celebrate the 30th birthday of this classic, Arby’s restaurants throughout Canada will offer the Beef ‘n Cheddar for an unbelievably low price of 30 cents, with purchase of medium fry and medium drink. The offer is available from August 18 through September 14, 2008.
“The Beef ‘n Cheddar marked a major milestone for Arby’s in 1978 and it continues to be a favourite even today,” said Jason Abelkop, senior vice president of field marketing and national media, Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc. “We want to thank our loyal customers for making the Beef ‘n Cheddar a star on the Arby’s menu by offering it for just 30 cents, less than what it originally cost 30 years ago.”
