Biggby Coffee is very proud to announce its feature in Conscious Company magazine’s Spring 2018 issue on transformational leadership. Co-CEOs Bob Fish and Mike McFall, otherwise known as BaM, were interviewed by Nathan Havey of Thrive Consulting who wrote the article.
In 2014, the dynamic duo spent time exploring the idea of a higher purpose and made the all-in decision to change the way that Biggby Coffee operated. They decided to put people first. After months and months of research and interviews, it was perfectly clear that while Biggby had become a well-known brand focused on specialty beverages and an upbeat atmosphere, it had come at the cost of home-office employee happiness.
Since then, the leadership group at Biggby Coffee has been working hard to keep the company purpose front of mind when making any decision. The Biggby Coffee purpose is as follows, “We exist to support you in building a life you love. The ‘you’ is just that…you. Each and every person that Biggby Coffee comes in contact with will feel the positive impact of this moral compass in action.”
Not only did this shift in thinking change the way the Biggby Coffee home office operated, it will in the not-too-distant future change the actual revenue stream of the company. Studies show that conscious companies have outperformed the S&P 500 by 14 to 1 over the previous 15 years. The company has done this, Havey says, in part by demonstrating deep care for its employees and other stakeholders and by pursuing a clear purpose beyond profit.
