Biggby Coffee to Open 100th Store

  • Industry News July 14, 2008
Biggby Coffee will open its 100th store tomorrow in the northern Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills. The store, located at 1952 Telegraph Road, officially opens its doors on Tuesday, July 15, with a week-long celebration of free coffee and customer give-a-ways.

To celebrate this significant milestone chain-wide, the 100th customer at all 100 Biggby Coffee stores across nine states will receive their order for free on July 15.

"It seems like yesterday when we opened the doors to our first store in East Lansing, Michigan," says Bob Fish, co-founder and CEO. "In reality it's been over a decade, and during that period we've built a distinctive brand that really resonates with coffee lovers. Our 100th store milestone supports that theory."

Biggby Coffee is the largest 100 percent franchised-based model in the U.S. It's led by founding partners Bob Fish, Mary Roszel, and Michael McFall. The company began franchising in 1999, when it had just two stores open. To date, the Company has doubled store count every two years. In addition to its current stores, the Company has an additional 73 under contract to open during the next 24 months. BIGGBY plans to have more than 250 stores by the year 2010.

"I think it's pretty much unheard of to franchise a two-store model, but our original franchisees were brave people who shared our vision, and they understood that we were approaching this thing differently," Fish says. "I believe 100 stores is just the tip of the iceberg as we continue to get franchise inquiries every single day from people who want to own and operate their own business and love the Biggby Coffee concept."
