Bojangles’ announced that with the help of its loyal customers, the company raised a record-breaking $536,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) during its 13th annual Shamrocks Against Dystrophy in-store fundraiser. With the more than a half-million in funds raised, Bojangles’ will send 660 children affected by neuromuscular diseases to MDA summer camp this year.
From February 28 through March 16, Bojangles’ customers at all company-owned restaurants and participating franchised locations were given the opportunity to support MDA by purchasing a green shamrock for $1 or a gold shamrock for $5. Customers who purchased a green shamrock received a coupon for a free Bo-Berry Biscuit, a Bojangles’ made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuit filled with blueberries and topped with a sweet icing drizzle. Customers who purchased a gold shamrock received a coupon for a free Bojangles’ Sausage Biscuit, featuring seasoned sausage on a biscuit.
“Bojangles’ is proud to be a longtime supporter of MDA’s mission to fund research seeking treatments and cures for neuromuscular diseases and to provide support and healthcare services to MDA families,” says Bojangles’ president and CEO Clifton Rutledge. “This year marked another successful Shamrocks Against Dystrophy Fundraiser thanks to our generous customers, without whom the success of this program would not be possible. MDA Camp is a very special place and we feel honored to play a small part in helping make this experience happen for even more children.”
The MDA Summer Camp offers children a wide range of activities specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Although the camp is structured, programs are conducted in a relaxed atmosphere that gives campers an unmatched opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, share interests and build self-confidence.
“Over the years Bojangles’ contributions to our cause have brought countless smiles to the faces of our MDA families, especially our MDA campers,” says MDA divisional director Theresa Miller. “From raising funds during the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraiser to serving delicious chicken and biscuits at MDA Camp, Bojangles’ dedication is appreciated by those they touch, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership.”
An MDA partner of 16 years, Bojangles’ has raised more than $3.5 million to support healthcare and research efforts through the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy Fundraiser each spring and the MDA Golf Classic each fall.
