Bruster’s Real Ice Cream may have been founded and headquartered in Pennsylvania, but its largest market is Georgia with a significant concentration in the Atlanta area. Bruster’s in Athens brings approximately 2,000 square feet, including an outside patio at which to make special memories, to 1029 Parkway Place, Athens, GA 30606.
With about two months under its belt, the store will host a grand opening October 4 to October 6. It will mark the milestone with a ribbon cutting, more than 1,000 giveaways, free samples and an opportunity for franchisee Andrew Rowe and his family to introduce themselves.
“We are happy to be in this community where we’ve made so many memories as a family,” Rowe says. “Since opening it’s been wonderful getting to know everyone, becoming more involved and we invite all to join us at the grand opening.”
Located in the same area as University of Georgia, opening a Bruster’s was a no-brainer for Rowe and his family. With deep connections to the school including graduates, current students and former employees, being nearby isn’t the only way they’re demonstrating their love for the community. They’re also adding an Athens tradition and fun photo opportunity: a bulldog statue guarding the front of the store. His name? Scoops.
“We hope Scoops will become a destination for kids, families and students to gather around as they build memories at Bruster’s,” Rowe says. “You’ll know you’ve arrived at our store when you see the ‘dawg’ sporting a Bruster’s t-shirt.”
In addition to bringing Bruster’s flavors to the neighborhood, the store has also leaned into the company’s focus on “Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders Today” with a staff comprised of University of Georgia, University of North Georgia – Oconee Campus and high school students from five local institutions. Bruster’s of Athens has already begun building charitable relationships in the community including UGA HEROs, The Cancer Foundation, Books for Keeps and UGA Relay for Life. Plus, the Rowe family is always looking to partner with other worthwhile causes whether it be local schools or non-profits.
Bruster’s is also now featuring fresh fall flavors at all stores, including Apple Dumpling sundaes. Apple Dumpling sundaes start with a warm, flaky apple dumpling topped with fresh cinnamon ice cream and warm cinnamon sauce.
