Peter Tan, a fast food hamburger restaurant veteran, has been named to the newly created position of Burger King Corporation’s senior vice president and president, Asia Pacific.

Tan has more than 10 years experience as a fast food executive with McDonald’s in Asia. He will report to Greg Brenneman, chairman and CEO of Burger King Corporation, and be part of the company’s global executive team. He will be based at the company’s Asia headquarters in Singapore.

Tan joins Burger King Corporation (BKC) from the McDonald’s Corporation where he was a corporate senior vice president and president of greater China, a position that included Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau and more than 1,250 restaurants. Tan was responsible for strategic growth of the business and management of all key functions in the region.

“Peter will be an excellent addition to BKC’s management team. He brings a wealth of industry- and region-specific expertise to our Asia Pacific operations,” said Brenneman. “As we continue to successfully execute our Go Forward Plan, we are confident that the Asian market is a tremendous opportunity for our business. Peter has the expertise, insights and energy to take us to the next level of success.”

Tan said, “Burger King Corporation is achieving outstanding results and is building great momentum worldwide. I’m delighted to be joining the company at this time and am looking forward to working with Greg and the global executive team.”

Among Tan’s accomplishments at McDonald’s were developing an organization to support the growth potential of the greater China region, delivering operational excellence standards that are among the best in the system and driving food innovation. Tan’s other roles at McDonald’s included serving as president of McDonald’s China Development Company. Before joining McDonald’s, Tan was vice president of CitiBank Singapore.

Tan holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and is a member of the Kellogg School of Management Alumni Advisory Board.
