When Dan Burrell and Angel Velazquez open the doors of their Jersey Mike’s Subs store in Long Beach next week, the national sub sandwich shop will have opened a milestone 30 stores in California. This same team opened the first California Jersey Mike’s Subs store in Camarillo in 2003.

“We’ve always had a cult-like following on the East Coast so we are thrilled that Californians also embrace our subs,” says Peter Cancro, the company’s founder and CEO.

Jersey Mike’s growth in California continues to gather speed. This is the 13th Jersey Mike’s Subs unit to open in the state in the past year. In 2009, the company projects another 14 California stores will open.

The newest store, located at 1 World Trade Center, Suite 110, will hold a grand opening on March 2. It is hosting a 6-day fundraiser from Mon., March 2, through Sat., March 7, with proceeds going to St. Mary Medical Center’s Comprehensive AIDS Resources and Education Program or C.A.R.E. Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a $1 donation to the charity. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.

“This fundraiser helps one of our neighbors doing critical work in the community,” says Burrell who is also area director in California for the sub chain and now owns eight units in California with Velazquez. “We invite everyone in for a visit and to help ensure St. Mary’s C.A.R.E. continues providing important medical and social services to those who need them.”

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday.
