Campbell Soup Company announced that its North America Foodservice division expanded its line of beverages that meets the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s nutritional requirements for products served in schools with the addition of V8 V-Fusion in 8-ounce cans.
Campbell’s school beverage portfolio now includes six juices that meet the American Heart Association’s criteria for heart healthy products and the standards outlined by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a partnership between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. Campbell was one of the first participants to adopt the Alliance School Competitive Food Guidelines in October 2006.
“The future health of our country starts with children who are now in elementary school classrooms,” says Pat Montgomery, senior manager of Global Nutrition & Health for Campbell Soup Company. “We’re proud to offer great-tasting and healthy products that give kids nutritious options while they’re in school.”
Campbell’s school beverage portfolio now includes: 8-ounce cans of V8 V-Fusion Pomegranate Blueberry and Strawberry Banana juice; 5.5-ounce cans of V8 Vegetable juice with Vitamins A, C, and E; 5.5-ounce cans of V8 Low Sodium Vegetable juice; and 5.5-ounce cans of V8 Spicy Hot Vegetable juice.
Both of the new 8-ounce V8 V-Fusion products contain 120 calories or less per serving; are gluten-free; are low in sodium; have no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives; have no sugar or high fructose corn syrup added; and offer one full serving of fruit and one full serving of vegetables per 8-ounce can. V8 Vegetable juice is made with all natural 100 percent vegetable juice, and is a source of vitamins A, C, and E. V8 Low Sodium Vegetable Juice is gluten free, kosher certified, and contains 70 percent less sodium than the regular variety.
“With 54 million students attending schools nationwide, schools are a natural place to promote and reinforce healthy eating for today’s youth,” says Ginny Ehrlich, executive director of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. “We applaud Campbell for creating healthier school products and making a commitment to help reverse the childhood obesity epidemic.”
