Charley’s Grilled Subs, home of the world’s best Philly Steak sandwich for more than 25 years, is continuing its global expansion with its newest location in South Korea, opening on September 14.
This location is the first in the country’s capital, Seoul, and the first in South Korea under the new moniker of Charley’s Philly Steaks. The new restaurant offers South Korean diners a chance to experience the world’s tastiest Philly Steak sandwich. There are currently four other locations on military bases.
The new Charley’s, opening in Mecenatpolis Mall, is part of a larger expansion as the franchise is planning for five additional units throughout the country. Charley’s already has a presence in several international markets, including Japan, Germany, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Saudi Arabia.
“The Seoul community has embraced the idea of the new Charley’s location, so we are extremely confident that it will soon become the most popular sandwich chain in South Korea,” says Dae-Hyun Shin, regional developer and franchise partner for the new restaurant. “There is nothing similar to Charley's hot grilled sandwiches here in Korea.”
Most of the core menu will be the same, with the addition of a few sandwiches catering to local customers, like the Philly Steak Bulgogi, which is made with a Korean marinated sauce. The new store will also feature real ice cream shakes.

Charley’s was founded in 1986 by the company’s CEO, Charley Shin. In addition to its booming international growth, Charley’s continues its rapid U.S. development as well. In 2012, 52 new restaurants will open, averaging one new store each week, and Charley’s will celebrate its 500th opening.
