Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHKR) today reported it is in the processing of finalizing contracts to move its corporate headquarters across the bay to Tampa from Clearwater. Checkers' new corporate offices at Westshore Place II will be located at 4300 West Cypress Street. With its recently announced return to profitability in 2000, Checkers continues its drive toward the future by moving from a free-standing 34,000 square foot facility to modern facilities in the commercially developing areas of Westshore and Tampa International Airport. The relocation is being made in line with the company's long term strategy to wake up new store growth and operate the company like it is brand-new all over again.

Daniel Dorsch, President and C.E.O. commented: ``Yes, we are proposing to move of our corporate offices to Tampa for good reason. Today, we are operating in a new environment and we are thinking different than a few years ago. We are virtually brand-new all over again and that means we are moving back into a franchise growth mode. With our recent market sales we have gone from restaurants being 50% corporately owned and operated to a 75% franchisee operated restaurant company. We are planning an aggressive move back to franchising our brands and that means we need to set up our infrastructure accordingly. I feel the central location around the Tampa International Airport will also ensure access to the entire work force of the Tampa Bay area.
