National Cottonseed Products Association (NCPA) launched its first-ever video contest, challenging chefs to create their "Best Beignet" using cottonseed oil.
The competition encourages contestants to create beignets — fried fritters sometimes filled with fruit and topped with powdered sugar — similar to those at New Orleans' legendary Café du Monde, which has been around for more than 150 years.
The contest asks chefs to demonstrate their beignet tips on camera in three minutes or less. NCPA will select the winning video based on criteria such as originality, clarity and professionalism, and promoting the benefits of making beignets with cottonseed oil.
Entrants must upload their videos to http://www.cottonseedoiltour.com/video-contest/ by February 18, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The contest winner will take home $5,000 and will be featured on CottonseedOilTour.com.
