In a menu test this fall, Chick-fil-A is taking its classic Chicken Sandwich to another level with a new limited time entrée—the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich.
What is the new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich?
The new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich is a twist on the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. It features an original Chick-fil-A Filet drizzled with honey, topped with pimento cheese and served on a warm, toasted bun with mild pickled jalapeños.
Chef Stuart Tracy, one of Chick-fil-A’s senior culinary developers, and his team have been perfecting the sandwich concept for more than a year.
“This is the first variation of the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich we’ve tested as a seasonal item,” Tracy says. “We have a feeling guests will love it.”
The Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich will be tested for a limited time at participating restaurants in Upstate South Carolina and the Asheville, North Carolina area. Guests in the area can try the sandwich beginning September 14, while supplies last.
Following the popularity of the seasonal Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich, the Menu Team embarked on developing another seasonal entrée option. This time, using an Original instead of Grilled Chick-fil-A Filet.
When Tracy and his team started to create different variations of the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich, Tracy tapped into his prior restaurant experience and considered all the standout elements of the best melt-style sandwiches: savory, salty, sweet and melty. By incorporating those elements into the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich, he was able to create something that appeals to a wide variety of flavor palates. During customer taste testing, it “won in a landslide” when compared to other Chick-fil-A sandwich concepts under development.
The Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich was developed to be the perfect balance of savory, sweet and spicy, but Guests can remove the jalapeños (or cheese or honey) if they prefer.
“The jalapeños add what we call ‘entry-level’ spice,” Tracy says. “They give the sandwich just a little kick, bringing a Southwest influence that pairs well with honey and pimento cheese.”
If you live in the Upstate South Carolina or Asheville, North Carolina area, contact your local Chick-fil-A restaurant or check the Chick-fil-A App to see if they are participating in the limited-time test.
