As a sweet thank you for the remarkable service nurses provide, Cinnabon and The DAISY Foundation are celebrating National Nurses’ Week by offering nurses free Cinnabon cinnamon rolls when they show their healthcare badges at participating bakeries May 6–12, 2013.
In addition to the Classic Roll, nurses this year can receive a Minibon Roll, a smaller version of the Cinnabon cinnamon roll.
The Nurses Week celebration is an extension of the Cinnabon support for The DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to honor the extraordinary care that nurses provide on a daily basis.
Throughout the year, more than 1,450 participating health-care organizations worldwide honor their nurses with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses as recognition for their tireless work with patients and families.
Winning nurses receive free Cinnabon cinnamon rolls for their entire unit as part of the DAISY Award celebration. The DAISY Award has been given to more than 35,000 nurses to date, and more than 200,000 nurses have been nominated.
Bonnie and Mark Barnes established The DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses after their adult son, Patrick, died of complications from an auto-immune disease. During his hospital stay, Patrick would eat very little, but he loved and craved Cinnabon cinnamon rolls.
Each day, his family would bring him a Cinnabon cinnamon roll, and Patrick insisted they bring enough for all of the nurses, too. This serves as the inspiration for the Cinnabon and DAISY Foundation partnership.
“Our mission at the DAISY Foundation is to express our profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day,” says Tena Barnes, Patrick’s wife. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Pat’s life than by sharing his favorite treat—a Cinnabon cinnamon roll—with those who helped make the hardest time in our lives a bit sweeter.”
Kristen Hartman, vice president of marketing at Cinnabon, says, "Each year we look forward to honoring nurses across the nation, who dedicate their time to bettering the lives of others. We hope offering free Cinnabon cinnamon rolls will help remind them how special they truly are and how thankful we are for what they do.
