Colombia to Withhold Coffee from Export in 2004

    Reuters today reported that the second-largest coffee producing nation in the world plans to withhold a half million bags of from the export market next year.

    Hampered by low prices that have hurt coffee growers, a Colombian coffee exporter told Reuters the country hopes to curtail the effects.

    An unidentified industry official who spoke with Reuters said the 500,000 60-kilogram bags would be used to bolster the country’s coffee stocks, giving it more control over fluctuating prices.
