Copper Branch, the largest plant-based restaurant chain in the world, has announced that in honor of World Oceans Day on June 8th, it will donate 1 percent of sales of its plant-based Crab Cake Burger this summer to the cleanup of the world’s ocean through a partnership with the organization, The Ocean Cleanup.

The oceans are facing an environmental crisis as over 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently litter the oceans. Per the organization The Ocean Cleanup, “Trash accumulates in 5 ocean garbage patches, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California. If left to circulate, the plastic will impact our ecosystems, health and economies. Solving it requires a combination of closing the source, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean.”

A full scale deployment of the organization’s revolutionary technology will be able to clean up to 50 percent of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch every five years.

“What The Ocean Cleanup is doing to save our fragile seas is vital to the survival of the planet and its inhabitants. We at Copper Branch feel that we have a duty as citizens of the world to align our values with those of organizations such as The Ocean Cleanup and we are proud to do so, ” Copper Branch’s CEO, Rio Infantino says.

The collaboration fits alongside the company’s existing commitment to saving previous rainforest lands through its partnership with Rainforest Trust, with whom Copper Branch estimates the company has saved over 1,100 acres of rainforest lands.

World Oceans Day takes place on June 8th and brings together people from around the world to organize events and activities that will help protect the ocean for the future. Since 2002 the organization has worked collaboratively with hundreds of organizations and networks from all sectors to help rally the world around June 8th and continue to grow engagement and action. Over the last two decades the global network of partners has grown to over 2,000 organizations, all of whom are committed to saving our oceans. Copper Branch is proud to be a partner in this indispensable effort.
