Cousins Subs Awards Student Athletes $14,000

Milwaukee–based Cousins Subs awarded four high school seniors with $14,000 in scholarships as part of its second annual Wisconsin Sports Awards Scholarship Contest (WSASC).

Adam Vechart of Menomonee Falls and Cecilia “CeAnna” Soper of Hartland were the grand prize winners of $5,000 scholarships, while Trey Horbinski of Necedah and Audrey Adler of Oconomowoc were each awarded $2,000 scholarships during the Wisconsin Sports Awards on April 24th at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

“The Wisconsin Sports Awards was a great way to reward these remarkable student athletes for all they’ve accomplished,” says Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing for Cousins Subs. “They were able to meet prominent athletes like Aaron Rodgers and celebrate a night to remember before graduating and moving on to the next chapter of their lives.”

The scholarships were funded through Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization established by Cousins Subs in 2013. The Make It Better Foundation addresses three areas of interest: health and wellness, hunger, and youth education.

“Cousins Subs strongly believes in serving and giving back to the communities where we operate,” McCoy says. “Health, wellness and youth education are the pillars of our foundation, and all of this year’s WSASC recipients excel in these areas.”

More than 800 applications were received from high school senior athletes throughout the state of Wisconsin.

“We’re pleased with the growing level of interest in our scholarship contest and we’re more than impressed by the collective achievements of this year’s applicants,” McCoy continued. “The most difficult job has proven to be identifying the four finalists from all of the inspiring young people who apply.”
