The American Culinary Federation Chef & Child Foundation Inc. (CCF), the voice of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) in its fight against childhood hunger, will celebrate national Childhood Nutrition Day on October 16 to raise awareness of childhood hunger, malnutrition, and obesity in America.
Childhood Nutrition Day focuses on the need for education about childhood hunger, proper nutrition, and obesity issues. Since the campaign’s launch in 1995, hundreds of chefs across the nation have participated in events within their local communities to feed hungry children, and foster and promote awareness of proper nutrition. ACF’s CCF encourages all government institutions, food banks, child-feeding agencies, and philanthropic groups to work with the local ACF chapters to organize a childhood hunger awareness event.
The day is planned to coincide with World Food Day, which began in 1981 and is observed each October 16 to recognize the 1945 founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. World Food Day is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding, and informed, year-around action to alleviate hunger.
The Mission of CCF is to educate children and families in understanding proper nutrition through community-based initiatives led by the ACF chef members, and to be the voice of the culinary industry in its fight against childhood hunger, malnutrition, and obesity. CCF is working diligently to provide nutrition education for the chef and to provide educational materials and programs to assist chefs and communities to educate the young on proper nutrition. A partnership with Clemson University was formed this year to underwrite nutrition research and to provide free nutrition-focused articles for chefs and culinarians through Culinary Nutrition News.
