Delphi Display Systems, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of reliable and rugged outdoor digital signage solutions, announced that its Endura Order Confirmation System (OCS) display has received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approval, including the UL 50 NEMA 4X designation for electronic enclosures.
The NEMA 4X designation signifies the safety for use of this product when subjected to rain, sleet, snow, wind-blown dust, dirt, hose-directed water, external ice formation, and corrosive elements.
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is one of the oldest independent product performance and safety certifying organizations in the world. UL testing laboratories provide certification on the safety of products, as well as their environmental claims. Because UL is fully independent, versus manufacturer self-testing, it is considered the “gold standard” for product quality and safety in the United States.
“While the NEMA 4X rating is nothing new to Delphi products, achieving the UL 50 certification on the Endura display line demonstrates the safety and reliability of the Endura product line,” says Mike DeSon, COO at Delphi.

In addition to UL certification, Delphi has received domestic and international certifications including FCC Part 15B, K-Mark (Korea), C-Tick (Australia), CE for Europe, and VCCI (Japan) supporting Endura customers around the world. Additional certifications are in process and all Delphi OCS products are Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant, green, and made from recyclable materials.
The Endura 15-inch LCD contains a proprietary custom LED backlight system designed to last for 70,000 hours MTTH (Mean Time to Half-brightness). MTTH is the industry standard time measurement at which the backlight will diminish to 50 percent of its original brightness.
Because OCS’s must typically function in direct sunlight, MTTH is of critical importance to the quick-service industry. A dim display, while technically still “functioning”, is of little value to the quick-serve customer if unreadable in direct sunlight.
Delphi’s 70,000 hour MTTH, often confused with Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), is the longest life backlight on the market today delivering performance 40 percent greater than what is currently offered in comparable solutions.
Furthermore, the Endura OCS contains a state-of-the-art proprietary Environmental Control Unit (ECU) that continuously monitors and manages internal temperature allowing the display to perform reliably from -40°F to +140°F (-40°C to +60°C) ambient.
As all LCDs contain a liquid crystal material that is subject to freezing in cold temperatures, the Endura OCS contains a solid-state heater, unlike some competitive models, that ensures the display will turn on and function in temperatures as low as -40°F. “We even have customers who have reported our products work at temperatures below -40°F,” DeSon says.
Delphi was the first company to introduce an LCD-based OCS in 1994 and, for the past 18 years, has established a track record of delivering reliable products. Its current-generation display, with thousands deployed to the field, continues to deliver a field reliability rate of 99 percent since its inception.
With the addition of the improvements made in the Endura product line, Delphi is so confident in its reliability that the Endura OCS includes a five-year standard warranty with Advance Exchange and free technical support—the longest offering of its kind available in the industry today.
In the unlikely event that an Endura display requires warranty servicing, a replacement display will arrive to the store within two business days, ensuring seamless drive-thru operations and delivering the lowest total cost of ownership. The in-field replacement of this display is very simple and requires no special tools or technical support.
Delphi offers two versions of the Endura OCS display. The Endura E-Net OCS contains an embedded industrial computer and application software that interfaces directly with the Point-of-Sale (POS) system network and which stores all content locally in flash memory.
The Endura V-Net OCS utilizes Delphi’s proprietary VGA over CAT-5 transmission technology to transmit video over standard CAT-5 network cable up to distances of 1,000 feet, enabling the computer to be located in the store.
