Great American Cookies is celebrating National Cookie Month and National Book Month this October by hosting the first-ever Reading is SWEET: 2010 National Book Drive at participating Great American Cookies stores across the country.

The company also teamed up with actress Bridget Moynahan to help spread the word about the program.

The celebration is supported by GFG Management LLC, a subsidiary of Global Franchise Group.

The Reading is SWEET: 2010 National Book Drive kicks off on October 1 with a free Original Chocolate Chip cookie giveaway from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at participating locations. Throughout October, customers can receive a free cookie of their choice by donating a new or gently read book at their local Great American Cookies store.

All books collected at stores will be offered as a donation to a local branch of the public library or a local charity.

As the official spokesperson for the 2010 Reading is SWEET program, Bridget Moynahan, star of movies including the recent “Ramona and Beezus,” “I, Robot,” and “The Recruit,” as well as the new CBS drama “Blue Bloods,” will work with the company to promote the program through a nationwide radio media tour on October 1.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Great American Cookies to promote literacy and support community libraries,” Moynahan says.

“I’m passionate about books and believe that no matter what your age, be it 3 or 30, there are few better ways to grow as a person than by reading.”

In support of the program, Great American Cookies has created a special website at www.GreatAmericanCookies.com where customers can find a participating Great American Cookies location near them. The page also includes links to resources on book donation and the American Library Association (ALA).

“Books open the door to a rich world of knowledge and experiences for their readers,” says Jenn Johnston, senior vice president of brand marketing for GFG Management, LLC.

“We believe that literacy is a universally important cause that all of our customers and store owners can support and we’re happy to provide a sweet reward for their donation.”
