Dole Packaged Foods is pleased to announce the grand-prize winner of the second annual DOLE Fruit Flash Mob contest is Indian River High School (Chesapeake, Virginia).
Last fall (August 30–December 31, 2012), Dole challenged schools nationwide to create videos that promote healthy eating and incorporate fruit consumption in a school foodservice setting.
The Indian River staff/student team fused their talents to produce a three-minute rap extravaganza with original lyrics and choreography.
For their effort, Indian River High School will collect $1,000 and 10 cases of DOLE Fruit Bowls All Natural Fruit in 100% Fruit Juice.
Also turning in award-winning performances, Northwood Middle School (Wakarusa, Indiana) and North Powder Charter School (North Powder, Oregon) earned the two first-place spots.
Each school will receive $500 and 10 cases of DOLE Fruit Bowls All Natural Fruit in 100% Fruit Juice.
Dole will present the three second-place winners–Francisco Elementary School (Westfield, North Carolina), Casimir Pulaski Middle School (Meriden, Connecticut), and Mid-Carolina High School (Prosperity, South Carolina)–with 10 cases of DOLE Fruit Bowls All Natural Fruit in 100% Fruit Juice.
Stuart McAllister, field sales director-foodservice for Dole, says the contest has boosted awareness for Dole’s school foodservice program.
“Changes in the USDA guidelines require schools to serve fruit daily both at breakfast and lunch,” he says. “The DOLE Fruit Flash Mob contest adds extra excitement and added incentive for schools to meet this new standard. Year-round, Dole can supply quality packaged fruit products that fit school nutrition patterns.”
