Sweet and salty is one of the trending flavor profiles that the Dairy Queen system has turned into a new Blizzard Treat flavor.
DQ Grill & Chill and Dairy Queen locations nationwide debut the Choco Covered Pretzel as the featured Blizzard of the Month. A blend of choco covered pretzel pieces and choco chunks tumbled with peanut butter and DQ signature creamy vanilla soft serve, the Choco Covered Pretzel Blizzard Treat is available in four sizes including the Mini.
In April, Blizzard Treat flavors will also come served in plain or chocolate dipped freshly baked waffle cones, in keeping with the Dairy Queen system’s status as the Cone Capital of the World.
“We are kicking off the start of treat season with two amazing additions to our menu,” says Barry Westrum, executive vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation. “Choco Covered Pretzel is just the right blend of salty and sweet and will certainly be a hit with our fans, and only at Dairy Queen restaurants can we enhance the flavor of a waffle cone by serving our signature Blizzard Treats in one.”
In addition to signature treats, DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and other DQ locations offer food items including the deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches, Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads, Chicken Strip Baskets, Shrimp Baskets, Quesadillas, Chili Cheese Dogs, and more.
A new deal is the $5 Buck Lunch, available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch, or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage, and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard Treat. The offer may vary in Texas.
The Dairy Queen system began blending simple combinations of chocolates, nuts, candies, cookies, and fruits with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat.
The treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, flavors such as Chocolate Candy Shop, Midnight Truffle, and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.
Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including Choco Covered Pretzel, can also be made into a DQ Cake.
The popularity of the Blizzard brand is what led the Dairy Queen system to initiate the Blizzard Fan Club in 2005 and the Dairy QueenFacebook fan page in 2008. Today, the Fan Club is 3.3 million members strong while the DQ Facebook fan page has more than 5.7 million friends.
