What’s just as iconic to Duck Donuts as its Warm, Delicious and Made-to-Order donuts? The answer is the store’s large selection of collectable rubber duck toys sold at the register. From farm animals, to nurses, rock star and seasonal-inspired ducks, it’s an item most parents have a hard time passing up with each visit.

To celebrate National Rubber Ducky Day on January 13, all Duck Donuts locations are giving away a free cinnamon sugar donut with purchase of a rubber duck. The origins of National Rubber Ducky Day stem from Sesame Street. Ernie, the show’s lovable orange puppet, declared Jan. 13 as his beloved rubber ducky bath toy’s birthday and is recognized on this day each year.

“National Rubber Ducky Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate a micro-holiday with our guests that is unique to our brand,” says Russ DiGilio, founder and CEO of Duck Donuts Franchising Company. “We originated in Duck, North Carolina, and our duck logo is a staple to our brand, as are the small rubber ducks we sell. In fact, in 2019, our 87 locations sold more than 117,000 ducks.”

Duck Donuts is also introducing two new limited-time flavors. Available until March 2, guests can enjoy the rich hazelnut flavor of Nutella topped and drizzled atop the popular the warm, vanilla cake donuts. In addition, the company is also bringing back the fan favorite HEATH toffee crunch topping. Both flavors can be enjoyed in the Winter Assortment, along with classic combinations such as blueberry icing with raspberry drizzle, maple bacon and lemon icing topped with shredded coconut. Sticking with the theme of nutty flavors, stores that offer espresso beverages are featuring a Salted Toffee Mocha and Hazelnut Latte.

Duck Donuts specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings and drizzles, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. The family-friendly stores offer a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made. Duck Donuts also sells coffee, tea, donut breakfast sandwiches and now offers online ordering and delivery in many locations.
