Duck Donuts announced it’s opening its third Orange County shop inside SteelCraft, a Long Beach-based outdoor urban eatery built with repurposed shipping containers. Owned by Minal Mehta and Gary Kopel, the shop located at 12900 S Euclid Street in Garden Grove, opened Friday, February 13.
“As our third donut shop in California, and our first shipping container model within the franchise, we are excited to expand our reach to serve warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts further inland,” says Kopel. “We’re looking forward to joining the list of SteelCraft vendors, giving us the opportunity to unite with other local eateries in this unique dining space.“
In addition to donuts, the 300 sq. ft. shipping container serves its signature coffee blends, donut breakfast sandwiches, and made-to-order milkshakes and donut sundaes featuring Thrifty vanilla ice cream. The shop also offers a vegan cake-based donut option. With vegan donuts, guests can experience the same made-to-order process, including customizing their donut by choosing from a variety of vegan-friendly coatings, toppings and drizzles, watching the donut being made fresh and always served warm to enjoy. For the first time, milkshakes and donut sundaes are also available using a premium vegan ice cream and choice of oat or almond milk.
“Our growth strategy for 2021 is focused on adding more nontraditional locations to our pipeline, such as food trucks, airports, entertainment venues, and college campuses, as these locations offer great visibility for our brand, and allows our franchisees to produce high volume, quality food in a small space,” says Dwayne Hoffman, Duck Donuts vice president of franchise development. “Nontraditional locations offer many benefits to franchisees as it allows them to open faster and are more cost efficient, while still offering our unique made-to-order experience that we are known and adored for.”
The shipping container shop is the first of many additional nontraditional spaces to come for the emerging brand. Duck Donuts anticipates opening 30 new domestic, five international donut shops and six nontraditional locations in 2021. The company currently operates one international and 99 U.S. franchise locations across 19 states.
