El Pollo Loco is hosting a voting campain that encourages its customers to help determine the restaurant’s menu. The company is turning to customers for their opinion on which flavor should make a limited-time appearance this fall.

From August 23 through September 6, customers at El Pollo Loco can cast their vote for one of four popular flavors launched in the past four years—Chile Lime, Lemon Pepper, Red Pepper Garlic, or Barbecue.

Each restaurant will feature ballots and a ballot box to secure the votes. Consumers can also vote online at www.elpolloloco.com. The “elected” flavor will be announced October 9, 2000, and will serve an eight-week term—October 9 through November 26, 2000—in El Pollo Loco restaurants. El Pollo Loco’s traditional flame-broiled chicken will continue to be available along with the winning flavor.

“We’ver experienced great success with our special, limited time flavors. Our guests frequently ask when their favoriet flavor will return, said Margaret Jenkins, vice president of marketing for El Pollo Loco. “With the 2000 presidential campaign just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to ask people to stand up and be counted by casting a vote for their favorite chicken.”

El Pollo Loco will communicate the opportunity to vote through a mix of merchandising vehicles, including a ballot box, ballots, in-store signage, balloons and campaign buttons. El Pollo Loco crew members will be able to campaign for their favorite flavor by wearing one of four different campaign buttons—one for each “running” flavor.
