Southern California Gas Co. (The Gas Company) has recognized El Pollo Loco for energy-efficient equipment upgrades that will reduce the quick-service restaurant chain’s annual natural gas consumption by 9,700 therms.

The award was presented to the company on April 29 at The Gas Company’s third annual Energy Efficiency Expo, where commercial and industrial natural gas customers learned about the latest energy-saving technologies and financial incentives available to accelerate the return on investment from energy efficiency.

El Pollo Loco was among a handful of companies recognized for their commitment to energy efficiency. The company received more than $13,000 in financial incentives from The Gas Company to offset the cost of upgrading fryers and ovens in 11 of the company’s restaurants in Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire. The upgrades will save the company about $5,000 per year in energy costs.

Together, the six companies honored at the event reduced their annual gas consumption by more than 2.7 million therms, for collective annual energy savings of more than $1.3 million.

The Gas Company has $18 million in incentives available this year to commercial and industrial natural gas customers for investing in energy efficiency. The company’s service territory encompasses approximately 20,000 square miles in diverse terrain throughout central and Southern California, from Visalia to the Mexican border. The Gas Company is a regulated subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE). Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company.
