Jonathan Shaw of Tampa, Florida won the Jimmy John’s “1,000 Subs For 1,000 Shops” sweepstakes. A little more than a year ago Shaw had his first Jimmy John’s sandwich near the University of South Florida campus.

“Wow, that’s pretty awesome,” Shaw said after finding out that he was the winner. “What am I gonna do with the subs? Share the wealth! I’ll eat a few, but I gotta hook the boys up!”

On March 30, Jimmy John’s opened its 1,000th unit and celebrated in style by hosting the “1,000 Subs For 1,000 Shops” sweepstakes on the Jimmy John’s Facebook page. Out of more than 23,000 entrants, Shaw won the grand prize.

“It’s cool that while this contest was open to anyone, it was a college kid that took home the prize since our cult-like following started on college campuses before spreading across the U.S.,” says Jimmy John Liautaud, the founder of Jimmy John’s. “We’re psyched to have fans that are so passionate about the brand. It’s their love that has contributed to our success and reaching the 1,000th shop milestone.”

Grand prize winner Jonathan Shaw is scheduled to graduate from the University of South Florida in 2011 with a Bioscience Medical degree. The 10 runners-up won $200 worth of Jimmy John’s gift cards and Jimmy John’s branded gear.
