Virginia is the "home" of Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs, with the first Famous Uncle Al's restaurant opened in 1985 by Famous Uncle "Al" Stein. The restaurant continues to operate at its original location. Six original Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs and three franchised Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs & Grille restaurants operate in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.
The new restaurant is owned by Franchisees Kevin Coleman and Carol Jordan.
