The Hummus & Pita Co. owners Steve Pesso, David Pesso and Janice Axelrod announced their newest acquisition and expansion plans for their fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant brand. They have signed a 15-year lease with Hata Realty Corp. to take over an entire building at 616 8th Avenue in New York City.
Located directly across the street from The Port Authority Bus Terminal and next to the New York Times Building, this new 3,100 square foot location for The Hummus & Pita Co. will offer dining options on the first and second floors, each covering 1,250 square feet, while the third floor will house their new flagship headquarters.
"The Hummus & Pita Co. brand is ripe for expansion from coast to coast,” says David Pesso, who negotiated the deal for the 15-year lease on the Midtown building. “Consumers are searching for wholesome, fresh, and healthy, accessible dining options. Mediterranean inspired cuisine is becoming increasingly more in demand, it is taking off in a big way as the diet of choice, and we want to be able to continue to serve the growing number of customers both in New York City as well as across the United States.”
This will be the second new offering from The Hummus & Pita Co. this year alone—the company debuted their Union Square location in May. The first location was opened two years ago in Chelsea, quickly followed by a second offering in TriBeca. Renowned architect Daniel O’Connor of Daniel O’Connor Architects will once again design a comfortable and inviting eco-friendly, communal, and eco-conscious space.
Offering authentic cuisine conceptualized by Steve and David Pesso’s mother, Janice Axelrod, the menu at The Hummus & Pita Co. eateries feature recipes passed down from generation to generation, as well as traditional favorites from all over the Mediterranean, made from scratch daily.
When a partnership with investment firm Hexagon Hospitality was formed earlier this year, the search began for new opportunities both in and out of New York City for expansion in the coming years. The Hummus & Pita Co. Building on 8th Avenue, which will offer many exciting promotions, is the first of 10 planned new locations.
