Orange County-based Jan’s Health Bar announced the opening of its seventh location in Long Beach, marking a new chapter in the brand’s more-than-50-year legacy of serving fresh, simple, and nutritious food. Located just a mile from California State University, Long Beach, Jan’s Health Bar brings its beloved menu of sandwiches, salads, and smoothies to a new community this fall.

Founded in 1972 in Huntington Beach, Jan’s Health Bar has grown from a single pop-up inside George’s Surf Shop to a multi-location staple of Southern California’s health food scene. As the eatery expands into Long Beach, Jan’s Health Bar remains true to its roots, offering nutritious items made with whole, simple ingredients. With six locations in Orange County, Jan’s Health Bar has become a staple in Southern California by offering a menu that cuts through the confusion of health trends and fad diets. While new items have made their way to the menu, original offerings like the Peanut Butter Banana Date smoothie and the Tuna Salad Sandwich remain available today, continuing to be customer favorites for over 50 years.

The opening of the Long Beach location is especially meaningful for Poppy Holguin, owner of Jan’s Health Bar and a proud alumna of CSULB. “Long Beach has always been close to my heart; it’s been a second home to me, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Jan’s Health Bar to this community,” says Holguin. “We’ve been intentional about our expansion and sought communities whose values align with and will benefit from our mission: to make healthy food accessible and approachable.”

Situated at 6232 E Pacific Coast Highway, the 1800-square-foot location features a bright, open-concept design that connects guests to the heart of the operation – the kitchen. The Long Beach location is designed to be welcoming and bright, a personification of what Jan’s Health Bar is all about. Holguin pays homage to the brand’s humble Huntington Beach beginnings with each location through a mix of new and nostalgic photos curated by customers and locals. Some depict just how interwoven Holguin’s history is with Jan’s, including old pictures of her outside the original location at eight years old and candid shots of her working behind the counter in high school.

The Long Beach opening marks a significant milestone in Jan’s Health Bar’s expansion, showcasing its ability to bring its celebrated menu to new destinations while continuing to honor its legacy of promoting a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Within the next year, Jan’s Health Bar is poised for continued expansion into Los Angeles and San Diego.

The multi-unit mainstay continues to make waves as it expands throughout coastal Southern California. In addition to its new location in Long Beach, Jan’s Health Bar has six stores in Orange County, including Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, and Irvine.
