Japanese-Inspired Concept Supertoro Expands with Two New Locations

    Industry News | August 21, 2019

K2 Restaurants announces the expansion of Supertoro, its original Japanese-inspired bento box concept in collaboration with Medeiros Holdings Co. and SuperTrio Restaurants, opening a new location in Hollywood, California. The second original restaurant concept from K2 made its debut inside SocialEats, a next generation food hall on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, July 2019. Supertoro showcases a custom package bento box of Japanese favorites built upon the foundation of “less is more” from the menu to atmosphere, delivering a meticulously thought out concept intended to be a very straight forward, functional and a memorable customer experience.

Supertoro’s second location will open later this year in the heart of Hollywood at 1542 N. Cahuenga Blvd., steps away from the Hollywood walk of fame within the bustling Cahuenga corridor. Supertoro adds an international flare to Hollywood as it continues to emerge as a vibrant food & cultural destination. The third location will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Supertoro offers Japanese must-haves including hand rolls, cut rolls, crispy rice galore, and more in a build your own bento box format. Fill your custom bento box with choices from each section of the menu or double up on your favorites. Choose from bites like Spicy Edamame, Shishito Peppers, Creamy Rock Shrimp, or Miso Soup. Then choose proteins or veggies on crispy rice, including Spicy Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Creamy Rock Shrimp, Pork Belly or Creamy Spinach. Add some greens such as Soba Noodle Salad, Seaweed or Cucumber Sunomono. Then finish off your box with a cut or hand roll: California, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Pork Belly, Grilled Avocado or Veggie. On tap and always flowing are sauces from a custom sauce dispensing bar. A full beverage menu features a variety of Japanese beers including Echigo Flying IPA, Orion Mugi Shokunin and Hitachino Nest Lager and sake such as Sho Chiku Bai, Hakkaisan Kowargura and Dassai 50.

“Today’s diner continues to demand convenience, quality, and personalization but with a thoughtful and even sometimes unconventional approach,” says John Kolaski, founder, CEO and curator of K2 Restaurants. “The build your own bento box format at Supertoro meets these demands from the clean lines of the design, to the distinct menu and custom packaging – which provide a highly efficient on-the-go or sit down meal for a variety of lifestyles that we find in the neighborhoods of all three of our locations.”

Supertoro is an entirely original concept created by John Kolaski and his team at K2 Restaurants, who own and operate Azulé Taqueria, named one of the best Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles by Thrillist, STRFSH by Chefs Michael and Bryan Voltaggio, Paperboy, Adelaide Coffeebar, Petit Harvest by Graham Elliot, Street Noods in partnership with Umbrella Hospitality Group, and Cada Vez by Joshua Whigham alongside David Chang’s Fuku which K2 will operate within SocialEats at The Gallery Food Hall on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
