Jersey Mike’s Subs has awarded 10 restaurants in New England to Mohegan Restaurant (JM Subs) LLC, a business diversification entity of Mohegan Holding Company LLC, of the Mohegan Tribe. The Tribe plans to open its first two sub shops within the next nine months. The awarded territory covers Rhode Island and the southern section of Worcester County in Massachusetts.

“Through our business diversification efforts, we are focused on economic development for the Tribe as well as our local communities,” says Kevin Brown “Red Eagle,” Chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council.  “Our new partnership with Jersey Mike’s, an outstanding company that shares our commitment to being a good neighbor, helps continue our growth in the franchise restaurant industry in order to create jobs for the region and careers for tribal members.”

The Tribe established Mohegan Holding Company LLC, for business diversification in non-gaming areas, and now includes interests in franchise restaurants, sustainable energy resources and manufacturing, and office digital solutions.  In November 2014, Mohegan Holdings opened the first of several Smashburger locations planned for southern New England in Waterford, Connecticut.

“The Mohegan Tribe is completely aligned with our core values to make a difference in someone’s life and we are excited to welcome the Tribe to the Jersey Mike’s family,” says Jersey Mike’s President Hoyt Jones.  “This partnership is an important step in our strategy to expand and build brand awareness in New England and we are actively looking for real estate in Rhode Island and the Worcester area.”

Early on, the two entities found common ground through a shared passion for supporting local causes such as the Connecticut Sports Foundation, an organization created to financially assist cancer patients and their families and to fund cancer research, and Wreaths Across America whosemission is to “remember the fallen, honor those who serve and their families, and teach our children the value of freedom.”

Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 1 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. Jersey Mike’s franchisees throughout the nation are gearing up for the 5th Annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving in March. Last year, $2.1 million was raised for more than 100 different charities nationwide.

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide.
